Coats for Kindness providing warmth with love!

Helping Hands

Our History

HISTORY

Coats for Kindness was founded by a Columbia, South Carolina businessman who had a passion for mission work and to help those in need. He discovered after participating in international mission trips to Zimbabwe Africa, Mexico and El Salvador that similar needs existed in our local communities throughout South Carolina.

After providing hundreds of new winter coats to needy individuals and families since 2006 in the greater Columbia area, he observed the need to provide school age children with warm coats. He was contacted by teachers and parents who informed him children would arrive to school in the morning during cold winter months in a long sleeve shirt or a light weight jacket. The need was obvious these children needed a coat to keep them warm and so they would not be as susceptible to winter colds and flu. Over time, serving school age children became the primary focus of his mission work.

In early 2011, this businessman formally organized his mission and took his mission to a higher level of service. He invited a small group of men from his church Sunday School class to become involved with funding and establishing a legal corporation and the genesis began. Coats for Kindness obtained a nonprofit tax exempt 501{c}3 status in 2011 and a South Carolina corporation was formed. Although Coats for Kindness, Inc. corporate entity is young, our mission work has grown to now serve many and has already touched hundreds of individuals in need.

The mission work provided by Coats for Kindness has been a blessing to all involved.
